Reflections on the 150th Anniversary of Treaty #3 Adhesion
On the 150th anniversary of Couchiching First Nation’s adhesion to Treaty #3, Chief Richard Bruyere reflects on a history rooted in unity, resilience, and shared identity. The message honours the “half-breed” families who became part of Anishinaabe society in 1875, recognizing their place within the treaty relationship and the enduring strength of community ties that continue to guide Couchiching today.
Grand Council Treaty #3 Rejects MNO Claims to Treaty #3
Grand Council Treaty #3 has issued a statement rejecting the Métis Nation of Ontario’s claims to Treaty #3 and its Halfbreed Adhesion. The Council stands with Couchiching First Nation, stressing these claims undermine Anishinaabe identity and history. It also calls on Canada to revoke MNO’s recognition, reaffirming the sacred treaty relationship and Anishinaabe unity.
